02 East Texas Builders Association 68th Annual Spring Parade Parade Chairman & ETBA President Welcome Welcome to the Spring Parade of Homes™ The Parade of Homes™ is a Spring & Fall event and is one of the most important fundraisers for the nonprofit organization — East Texas Builders Association (ETBA). Our organization is affiliated with the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). ETBA, TAB and NAHB’s primary goal is to keep housing affordable for homeowners. Our secondary goals are to provide resources, education and networking opportunities for builders and trade professionals. If you are looking for a professional to build or remodel your home, search the ETBA membership directory at www. EastTexasBuilders.Org for a list of the best trade professionals and home product suppliers in East Texas. If your business provides products and services for home ownership, you should be a member of the organization that best represents the building industry. While touring the Parade of Homes™, remember that your ticket is valid for all six days of the parade and you may visit the same home multiple times. This particular parade showcases homes in Longview, Hallsville, Henderson, Gladewater, Gilmer and Diana. Whether you are ready to build or remodel or the thought is years away, you will enjoy the variety of new home construction. The floor plans, paint colors, beautiful variety of flooring and countertops, custom kitchens, media rooms and outdoor entertainment areas are absolutely inspiring. Enjoy the Parade of Homes™! Spring has finally arrived here in East Texas! And along with it comes one of our area’s most anticipated events. The East Texas Builders Associations’ Parade of Homes. This is an opportunity for the entire family to get out and enjoy some of the most innovative and exciting residential construction being built in the area. Builders and vendors come together to show what is possible, and they are available to the public to answer questions and demonstrate their craft. Whether you are in the market for a remodel, new custom home build or just want to keep up to date with the latest trends and technology, make sure and take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy the beautiful spring weather while touring this years’ parade home properties. Fast Check When you see the East Texas Builders Association Logo in use by a business, what should you assume? A safe assumption is that active ETBA members have had extensive opportunities to learn the latest about industry trends, customer service, how to design new communities and new homes that best meet our customer’s needs and...how to run a successful business. Being an ETBA member means a home builder, remodeler or subcontractor has made the decision to identify with the official not-forprofit association representing the home building industry. That is a good sign for consumers working with an ETBA member. ETBA, TAB and NAHB facilitate dialogue with governments throughout East Texas, in Austin and Washington, D.C. to help keep housing affordable and home policies favorable to home buyers. ETBA is more than just home builders—the organization is heavily supported by many Associate members. An Associate member is a builder industry professional providing products or services, like lumber or other building supplies and technology. Buyers must use good judgement when entering any contract. But, a good guideline is to know whether your builder and other professionals have made the commitment to join the local builder’s association. So, the next time you are looking for a new home, a builder, a remodeler, a trade professional or a home product supplier, ask the building industry professional if they are a member of ETBA. In addition to seeking members of the ETBA, always remember to ask for references and compare multiple bids. It’s just another safeguard in making a decision that is right for you and your family.

Finding A Quality Home Builder Anyone interested in buying a new home wants to find a quality house built by a professional. While professionalism may mean different things to different people, generally there are guiding principles by which home building professionals conduct business. Look for these qualities in any home builder you choose to build your dream home. An important indicator of professionalism is whether or not the builder or contractor belongs to a home builder association or other professional organization. Becoming a dues-paying member of a building industry association typically means that a builder is an established member of the community. Builder associations encourage their members to research and develop new materials, building techniques and equipment, and improve methods of home financing so that home buyers receive the greatest possible value for their money. Home builder associations and most of their members care about their industry and building a quality product that will serve the homeowner and community for years to come. The quality of a new home will in large be determined by the skill of the building professional that constructs it. You should evaluate your builder as carefully as you would select the options and features of your new home. When you buy a new home, you are purchasing more than just a structure-you are buying a package of services, and the quality of those services will have an important effect on your enjoyment of the house. You will communicate frequently with your builder during and after the construction process, so choose a builder with whom you will feel comfortable working and you feel best understands your needs. One of the best ways to find out about the professionalism of a builder is to ask previous customers. Visit some of the builder’s previous communities and ask homeowners about their experiences. By doing your homework, you will be able to shop for a home or builder with a sense of confidence and the knowledge that will help you to make the correct decision for your family.
