Airforwarders Association - FORWARD Magazine, Fall 2020

Executive Director’s Report 4 COMES OPPORTUNITY Six months into the pandemic, our collective member experience continues as mixed, with over half reporting an erosion of business but many seizing new areas of profitability. A common thread is the creativity and flexibility of forwarders springing into action, supporting vital industries, including medical device manufacturing, e-commerce retailers, and others needed throughout the crisis. This time may be challenging, but forwarders continue to demonstrate their value as an essential part of the upcoming recovery. As several of our members continue to work at least partially from home, many warehouse facilities remain open for business and moving shipments. Our Association remains open for business and handles a steady stream of member issues, committee meetings, Director teleconferences, educational webinars, and attending meetings throughout our Nation’s Capital. Our upcoming plan’s significant change is that we will not be traveling to New Orleans this year for the annual AirCargo event but will have an in-person conference there in 2022. Instead, our goal is to continue the discussion for next year by hosting five 90-minute virtual sessions focusing on our members’ issues of concern. The first will be on January 27, featuring a dynamic keynote speaker, so watch for announcements about great sponsorship opportunities and registration information coming your way soon. While we are not flying to visit cities yet, our engagement schedule still remains exceptionally active. Recently we had an opportunity to present virtually before the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles Air Cargo Association, the National Defense Transportation Association, and a recent FreightWaves live event. We participated in the TSA Aviation Security Advisory Committee meeting and are looking forward to joining the Department of Commerce Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Security Committee meeting later this month. The pandemic may have us quarantined in Washington, but we continue to have a significant presence in getting our word out and supporting our mission throughout the country.
